The tulip is a member of the lily family, Liliaceae
Tulips are perennial herbaceous bulbs that bloom in spring 
Their flowers are usually large, showy, and brightly coloured, generally red, yellow, or white
Depending on the species, tulip plants can be between 10 and 70 cm high
Breeding programmes have produced thousands of hybrid and cultivars 
They are popular throughout the world, both as ornamental garden plants and as cut flowers
